Challenge

The customer is a company operating a chain of more than 3,000 stores in Europe (Austria, Belgium, Hungary, the UK, Italy, Finland, Sweden), Asia (Japan, Korea) and Australia, and incurs significant costs for maintaining the IT infrastructure of its stores.

The customer looked for an optimization of the IT infrastructure maintenance costs in the stores, including those related to cash registers, POS terminals and store servers (30,000+ devices), as well as for a large-scale upgrade of equipment in order to replace outdated checkouts and terminals throughout the territory of the company's presence.

Solution

GDC Services team has provided comprehend system integration project of trading platform and stores equipment renovation. Besides technical solutions, but also modernization of an overall approach for development, maintenance, update and collaboration between teams with leveraging modern tooling, automation and DevOps practices.

Results

• The New Solution in pair with renovation of equipment helped to achieve and even excided customer’s expectations in operational expenses reduction. After implementation, the entire store infrastructure is supported with relatively small team (several times less than before).

• Designed and implemented CI / CD pipelines and software build automation significantly decreased “Time to Production” of software updates and new releases distribution.

• Smart Automation approach with tailoring of build process to specific of each country / region / stores chain helped to reduce chance of human mistake and eliminated unnecessary expenses linked to rebuild or manual interventions following deployments.
